I have been looking at the Wages/str/hp of units and it would seem the most effective army would be one made up of Archers, bommerangers, and footman due to the massive amount of people you would have making up for the less hp/str per unit. Would this be a viable troop grouping?

No. Footmen have low HP at all lvls (even elite) and thus are only good to have 5-10 of them to simply die so your artillery doesn't. Boommerangmen are only in two countries and are thus too rare for a good strategy. Archers are good. However, an army should have at least one howitzer of veteran lvl or higher (a gaurunteed kill practically), some cavalry (free units and missionaries) and other kinds of infantry. Balance wins, not numbers.

balance has nothing to do with this game whatsoever after you have reached point that you can buy archers/healers. Howitzers are next to useless in real battles even with their high damage potential. Sure, you can kill one person possibly with a howitser, but you are only available for ranged. High level archers can injure multiples, participate in melee, and provide multiple targets, allowing you to have a greater troop count so that you go first in multiple rounds. Most of top players are not balanced at all. Only the people playing that don't mind taking a long time/ can login 8 times a day to move up are balanced. You will not be effective in pvp's when balanced against someone using all archers/ horse archers. It is simply basic math. Next set this may change slightly with weaker healers, but perhaps not, with lower wage/higher hitpoints for healers. It will have to wait until reset starts to find out the new numbers for units.

So Archers and Horse archers eh? I have been playing with a balanced army, I get injured most every training attack with 7 healers . I'm going to try Mentor's way since the balanced way doesn't work to well!

i have, i think a small balanced army. About 2 cannons, 2 archers and bout 5 cavraly. 5 pikemen 5 muskiters, 2 medics and 1 monk. 1 fighter, 1 samurai, 1 garde, 1 grenadier, 1 drummer and 1 pirate. 29 in all, is that a balanced army?

I got 19 Vet Gardes, an Elt Musketeer, an Elt Carabineer and a Cuirassier not sure how it works for training, but I thought it was fun, so many Gardes

I refuse to play this game until there are female soldiers. *hopes for amazons* Though I must admit that I've always thought of my soldiers of being of the male sex, I wonder if the gender of the soldiers is specified anywhere. You could hire a soldier and give her a female name...

Thats what I do with my healers... they apparently work better if they have a female name

I think if you give a unit a female name you just end up with a male unit with Psychological problems, so i stay away from that

I had an army of all footmen in age 4 and I will almost certainly have it in age 5 It's a good army. And, surprisingly.. except in massive 300 on 300 battles.. I did not loose tha many units to death. (I had about 40 footmen i had raised from app to master) and another 90 or so.. that I was usually buying at veteran level.

I can see this working well, the chances of the same Footie getting targeted twice in same round is so minuscule that they all survive. Only 1 hit kills would end a life.

just give them numbers. or barcodes for fast identification. the cannonfodder must know their place. give them a name and they think they ARE somebody...
