I think the Romans would kind of get in the way of italy~
plus roman warriors would get owned by musketeers~

My point was basically why not have an age where all these ancient cultures would be fighting

Doubt it. There where a lot of barbarian tribes, cultures to go around tbh... Sure maybe the amount of countries would be smaller, but it would be fun anyways.

i dunno, maybe cause china and rome would control half the world, and the other half would be owned by tribes?

Rome did not always rule the entire mediterranean. Go back a few centuries and cheat a little with the historic timetable, then you can easily include Rome, Carthage, Macedonia, Egypt, Persia, and several north African and Spanish kingdoms, all around the Mediterranean Sea.

I think it would be great again to play in a earlier setting. In a time where ranged wasnt so important. It would be nice to have a melee army again. If you do that in this age you get your ass kicked all the time.

the ancient Belgians would rule the age, because "De omnis Belgae fortissimi sunt"

There where a lot of cool barbarian tribes back then... so like you said its easily possible an it might create a nice setting...

(just gong to have fun dreaming..) You could have a map just with Europe and include the following nations: 1- Rome 2- Etruscans 3- Carthage 4- Syracuse 5- Athens 6- Sparta 7- Macedonia 8- Egypt 9- Messina 10- Persia 11- Saxons (In denmark) 12- Britons 13- Gallic 14- Berbers 15- Scots + Picts 16- Basque
And then you can get a little messy with history and use Goths, Visigoths, Huns, etc.
