I would say let officers buy there own equipment. Like making them able to choose between different kind of weapons, different kind of horses or artillery and even armour. Ofc the best equipment would be very expensive, but it would be worth it.

This would be a very huge change. Of course it would be nice but I dont know if it fits in this concept.

Well considering you are the commander it might be fun being able to decide what you will do in battle. However if you choose to have a horse some armour might not be available and if you choose to be a medic you can only buy weapons with low strentgh. Ofc each commander would have a standard equipment and his hp will still rise thnx to a lot of battles...

I love this idea, and hope it gets implemented along with officer traits!

I was thinking that if you implement this you should add continentinal items which. Because Europe had a lot of traders several items would be able to be bought in europe which would increase the amount of wage you could spend... Like african lands have scimitars for sale which add a nice strentgh to the officer and some items can't be worn at the same time. Or a better bows in Asia and Africa...

This is another example of making the game more complex which is fun for the diehards i like this game because it is quiet simple and easy to play you don't need 1 hour thinking before you can make your moves (except i f you are an emporer and decide about tactics)

Trebknight it does not give hours of thinking... All you can do is buy some equipment and they have drawbacks and benefits... its not like its complex because the items are easy to understand... and if you don't want to do anything with it you can keep the standard equipement which will have the same result as you have right now more or less.

Problems is that for the sake of realism equipment couldn't be very expensive. There are no 100,000 gp magical swords in this game, because it does not have a fantasy setting.
And if you could upgrade you commander for just a few gp.. That would be too powerful

Well some items could be collectors items and therefore hard to obtain or are made by a very talented and expensive smith and only a few of that kind are made every now and then...

Yes, and some items probably would be unlockable. 3rd lieutenant, lt. colonel, brigadier, vice marshal, field marshal, and emperor would be nice requirements for some items. So you'd have to at least lvl some or get elected emperor before you can get powerful items. It's not like a corporal is going to be buying the best armor in-game. Large cities (purple) have better smiths and the selection would varry by country and location.

I think we can pass up the 'realism' of the cost of things. And i doubt anyone wanted a magical sword. But there were unique things made, and some of these would be very costly. Armour was no cheap thing I believe.
I support some way, other than directly on units, to spend gold, and this idea is best ive heard. This or upgrading your Encampment.

Just wodnering if Vincent will ad this to the game much like making it possible to buy/upgrade encampments. It would add another dimension to the game which is needed to keep things interesting as well...

Buying individual equipment for troops...anyone considered the cost of server-space and the added complexity of the back-engine?
