Ok, after the Frequently Suggested Suggestions topic, it's time for the FAQ-2, which questions which were actually frequently asked
I would like to ask the mods to sticky this one too I'll try to keep this page updated as well, but also with this thread I'm granting permission to the mods to update it where necessary.
I will demand however, that this list is copied and modified when necessary to the next forum when we start age 4 ;D
Please don't reply this thread with new suggestions. Make a new topic about that, but only if it's not answered here already
It is OK however to comment my given answers or to suggest things which should be added to the list.
How long does an age last?
There isn't a set timeframe for an age. The age lasts as long as there's some progress and Vincent still thinks it's worth continuing. The end of the age will be announced about 1 week beforehand. To give you an idea: the last ages took about 1 month to 'finish'.
My referal got to the rank of captain. Why did I not get my free unit?
The most common reason is that that person was not your referral. There are two common reasons why someone would not be your referal:
The reason for the latter rule is to prevent cheating where people just create multiple accounts to get more referers.
If you're quite sure both of these rules didn't apply, then you can ask it on the forums (create a new topic, don't reply here). There's no way to check if someone is a referal yourself.
Why can't I post/reply in the friends list forum?
Why can't I send messages to all in my country?
People ranked lower than Lt Colonel cannot post on the friends forum or send mass messages. This is done to prevent low ranked people to spam all over the forum.
I'm ranked Lt Colonel or higher. How do I send mass messages?
Go to the Friends List and scroll down. There is the post box for new topics. Next to that list is a drop down box to select what type of message this is. Select "Send to all" from that list.
What is this city value? How much gold do I get it and when do I get it? And is it capped?
Each city in the game has a city value. It starts at 0, but increases by 1 every turn. Whenever you capture a city, it's value drops to 0 again. The limit of a city value is 100 gold/day.
Each night at 6 AM (subject to change, though it probably won't) every officer in the country gets the total city worth of the country in gold. So if your country has 6 cities worth 100 gold each, each officer get's 600 gold from those cities.
I'm not happy with the country I'm in. How do I change it?
There is no 'safe' way to defect. The only way to really change country is to reset your character.
How do I reset my character?
The only way to reset your character is to get killed. The easiest way to get yourself killed is by dismissing all your men and attacking a large city on your own.
After you're killed you have to wait 2 turns, after which you can reselect a country you want to join. You'll start again as if you just created your account.
I'm tired of the game how do I delete my character?
First off: I'm sorry to see you go. You can't delete your account however. Depending on what country you are in, you have 2 options.
My officer name sucks. How do I change it?
I'm sorry, but you can't. When you've picked a name you'll have to use it for the whole age.
Hmm, I'll just create a new account then. Is that OK?
No, it's not allowed to have more than 1 account per person. This rule is because having multiple accounts is a good way to spy. I'm sorry, but you're really stuck with your name.
If it's any consolation: just browse the rankings and you'll see names which are a lot suckier than yours (disclaimer: if your name happens to be sucky, I wasn't refering to you personally )
And if I just suicide my character?
The answer is still no. Someone with a dead character can just join a country and suicide again to spy on the friends forum.
Why can't I patrol the market?
The market is restricted to the ranks Corporal to Sgt Major. After that there's no reason anymore for you to patrol the market anymore.
Other places have other rank restrictions.
I have inactives in my country. They're preventing other people to join my country. Can I courtmartial them?
No. CM'ing of inactives is considered abuse and you can (and probably will) get banned for it. The inactives are handled by the game itself. After someone hasn't logged on for 7 days they will be marked 'inactive' and will be removed from most aspects of the game, including the total country size.
This currently isn't an issue since CM'ing of low ranked players is currently disabled.
What happens if I release a captured soldier?
That soldier will return to his officer for free. This is useful if you have accidentally attacked an ally for example.
It says I have 350/350 xp. Should I level to the next rank?
You will level when you go over your max xp for your rank. This is a little confusing to those who have played other xp-based games, but you'll get used to it.
What type of unit is my officer?
Your officer is an infantry unit.
My archers/longbowmen are marked as artillery. Does that make them any different from infantry?
No. The difference between artillery and infantry is purely in the name. Even a commander is not special in this aspect. All fight in as well the ranged as the melee rounds, though if either the Rdmg or the Str is 0, they deal no damage in that respective round.
New questions will be added above this line
How do pikemen work?
How does healing in battle work?
How do battles work?
I'll explain here exactly how battles work, since it's not really clear in the ingame FAQ. I'm trying to be as unambiguous as possible, while still keeping it readable for the average n00b. Tell me if I've failed
Battles work in 3 stages.
Stage 1: ranged attacks: This phase consists of 1 round of ranged attacks. All units of both sides which have a nonzero Rdmg (ranged damage) simultaniously fire at a random opponent, and has a chance of Racc % (ranged accuracy) to hit. If it hits it does R*Rdmg damage to the opponent.
Stage 2: cavalry charges: This phase consist of 1 round of cavalry attacks. Every unit of both sides which is flagged as cavalry charges to a random opponent. If that opponent is not a lancer or a pikemen it deals 2*R*Str damage to that opponent. If that opponent is a lancer or a pikeman, the unit deals no damage to the opponent, but instead that lancer/pikeman deals 2*R*Str' damage to the charging unit, with Str' being the Str of the lancer/pikeman.
Stage 3: melee attacks: This phase consists of as many melee rounds as needed. It has a maximum of 10 rounds (or was it 8?), but most of the times 1-3 rounds are all that's necessary for one side to be defeated.
A melee rounds goes as follows:
First, the largest army is calculated. Every non-drummer has a size of 1. A drummer has the size of 5 as an apprentice, and 5 extra for each rank after that.
The army with the largest total unit size is determined to be the 'largest' army. If both sides are equal, the attacking army is considered to be the largest.
Then, for each unit of the largest army, it picks a random opponent and does R*Str damage to it. Then the unit it attacked does a retaliate for R*Str' damage, with Str' being the Str of the retaliating unit. So yes, a unit with a Str of 0 still attacks (and thus gets to be retaliated) and a unit getting attacked multiple times can retaliate multiple times.
R in these calculations represent a random value between 80% and 120%.
After each round there comes a 'cleanup' phase for both sides. In this phase, every unit with 0 (or less) HP left dies and is permanently removed from the army. Every unit with less than 50% of their original HP left (but more than 0) is 'marked for healing'. Next, all healers do a healing check to see if they heal (they have a Heals % chance to succeed). If they succeed, of all the units 'marked for healing' the one with the highest XP is healed, in which case it is no longer 'marked for healing' but gets their HP restored to their original HP. After all healers have tried healing all soldiers still 'marked for healing' are instead taken out of combat. They will no longer attack, be attacked, heal, count for army size or be 'marked for healing' for the rest of the combat.
If, after this fase, the number of units still fighting is less than 50% of the original number of units when combat started the army flees.
If, after any round, one army flees, the other side wins. If both armies flee, the side with the largest number of units still fighting wins. Combat can end directly after the ranged stage if al least one of the armies flees after that.
Every unit of the losing army has a 1/6th chance to get captured by a random officer of the winning side. If an officer is captured this way, half of his money is distributed evenly over all the officers of the winning side.
If an officer dies in battle his account is reset, and all his money is divided evenly among all officers of the winning side. Please note that this only holds for player controlled officers. If a commander from a random encounter dies, the attacking player gets no money from him.
That's it folks. It was a great 300th post, but took a long time to write
Wow, that was really a long post. And apparently, it took me over 1.5 hours to write.

- If you're in a country with little players, the best way (for your country) is just to go to the capital and leave the game never to return again. This way you will still help to defend the capital for the next 7 days.
- If you're in a country with a lot of players a more grotesque exit might be more appropriate. Just suicide in the largest enemy stack you can find. That way you create a spot for a new player to join the country.
